【1】Typhoon and Rain Conditions
[Japan’s Climate]
  • Rainy Season (June-July)・・・Rains continue for long periods. (Rainy season)
  • Typhoon (September – October)・・・Typhoons are not unusual.
[Effects of Global Warming]
  • Due to the global warming, world is experiencing abnormal weather conditions. As a Result of such abnormal conditions, heavy rains are becoming more frequent.
  • The number of typhoons is increasing and there is a tendency towards an increase in the typhoon size.
【2】Preparing for Typhoons and Heavy Rains
  1. (1) Check all the places in your house and do the necessary repairs and reinforcements.
  2. (2) Reinforce the window glasses with a gummed tape or a vinyl tape.
  3. (3) Close all the shutters such as sliding storm shutters.
  4. (4) Secure the flowerpots, dustbins or any other such objects in the garden or keep them inside the house.
  5. (5) Clean the drainage pipes and drainage outlets to ensure good drainage.
  6. (6) If there is a possibility of flooding in a low-lying area, then place the electrical appliances and other furniture items as high as possible.
  7. (7) Take the same precautions as you might in the event of an earthquake.
【3】In the event of a typhoon or heavy rains
  1. (1) Do not go outside as much as possible.
  2. (2) Do not go near broken electricity poles or sagging cables.
  3. (3) Avoid going near the sea or rivers.
  4. (4) Pay close attention to weather reports.
  5. (5) If you sense danger, evacuate as soon as possible.
  6. (6) Follow official instructions.
【4】In the event of a flood
  1. (1) Escape to the 3rd or higher floors of the building.
  2. (2) Wait at a safe place until the rescue arrives.
